The Department of Creative Writing focuses on the practice of creative writing and theory research for pure literature and places the first priority on the fostering of competent persons in both the academic and literary world. In recent few years, with following social trends, graduates have advanced to broadcasting, press, and journalism-related areas in applied literature. On the other hand, after newly establishment of Graduate School of Department of Creative Writing, the ratio of graduate school enrollment is increasing and a number of graduates have shown their abilities in various areas to which creative writers are required such as poet and novelist by winning a prize of Sinchunmunye (Press’s Annual Literary Contest) and other literal magazines, drama and broadcasting scenario writer, film and animation game scenario writer, professional writer, journalist, copywriter, children’s author, and writing instructor
Prospects and Vision
As the tendency of the cultural content industry in the Korea increase, the demand for more sophisticated level of imagination and creative writing has been increasing, from films, advertisements, broadcasting, publishing, and the press, large and small companies, and school education, its required fields are also various. On the other hand, the reality is that due to the spread of the Internet and low reading volume, there is a shortage of talents who can write correctly. In addition, in modern world where long-term plans or retirement guarantees of one's dreams and life are uncertain, freelance-type occupations are expected to be in the limelight since it does not have age restrictions based on individual skills. As Korea develops into a developed country that can enjoy welfare and cultural life as time goes by, the desire for writing and the supply of professional human resources are expected to continue.
