Career opportunities after Graduation
After students graduate from the Department of Korean Language and Literature, they can advance into various fields, such as academia, teaching, publishing circles and journalism based on knowledge about Korean language and literature.
- 1If students complete a course in teaching or go to and graduate from Graduate School of Education, they will obtain the 2nd grade teacher certificate for middle school and can become a teacher of Korean at a middle or high school. Currently, many graduates are working as a teacher at Myongji High School, Bucheon High School, Zion High School and Hwasu High School
- 2Those who want to the world of more profound study can become a scholar and educator like a researcher or professor by continuing on to a master's and doctor’ program in graduate school.
- 3Students can become a writer (poem, novel and essay), critic, man of the theater, or teacher of Korean for foreigner based on a general theory and knowledge about Korean language and literature
- 4Students can advance into a scriptwriter, scenario writer, story writer, documentary writer, journalist (reporter), screenwriter (announcer, director), man of the theater, publication editor, copywriter, speech therapist, or jobs related to public relations by expanding and applying knowledge of Korean literature.
In addition, fields related to internet like webzine have been formed and their scope has been expanded these days.
Prospects and Vision
Since the study of Korean language and Korean literature is not an applied science but a basic and creative study, a person who has mastered it can better adapt to the newly reorganized modern society. Being recognized for its ability to cope flexibly with reality, the field of Korean language and literature graduates is expanding. Our Department of Korean Language and Literature is developing basic academic skills as well as prompt responding ability to reality through close relationships between professors, students, seniors and juniors.
