Introduction location

The Athletics Division has a far-reaching aims; support advancement of sports of Korea, university sports and improvement in national physique. In these objectives, the university established the soccer club, basketball club, men’s and women’s tennis club and volley ball club. The athletics division takes pride in what the division has achieved and do our utmost for better results.

Introduction

Soccer club

The soccer club was established in 1975 and has developed very rapidly. As the game is in priority in most universities, Myongji soccer club has always aimed to win in various national competitions and college league. It has produced many excellent members of the national team such as Kyeongbok Park, Byeongdeuk Jo, Inho No, Jinhan Choi, Myeongwon Song, Dongcheol Sin, Junggap Lee, Kyeongrae Kim Jeonghyeok Kim Ungryeol Yu, Jaehong Park, Jisung Park, Daeho Son and else. It also firstly won in India national soccer tournament as a sing Korean team and boosted national prestige. In 1989, Dagil Yang, one of the alumni, took the position of the manager after Pansun Yu, and advanced to the semifinals in 1990 spring college league. In September 1995, Huitae Kim took the palce for the manager and shaped the team into new level. In 1998, the team scouted Kyeongrae Kim, one of the alumni, as a coach and promoted him as a manager in 2003. Now it brings its best to bring the past glories back.

Basketball club

The basketball club was established in 1967. Under the harsh scouting conditions of university basketball, the club accomplished great records and turned out more than 20 professional players, having a key part in the development of Korean basketball. It also produced members of national team such as Mungyu Lee, Seongwon Jo and else. Currently the club maintain semifinal level, and produced many excellent players such as Seongwon Jo, Sanggwan Park, Seonghun Jo, Sangjun Go, Jaeheon Jeong, Jehan Yun, Tejin Kim, Jeil Park, Myeongil Pyo, Insung Hwang, Yeongjae Jang, Jongdeok Park, Byeongsuk Lee, Jinho Kim, Youngmin Park and else. Under the command of Manager Euljun Kang, it maintain its high reputation.

Volleyball club

The volleyball club was established in 1968 and once dissolved in 1975. During the period, it won many leagues and produced members of national team. Especially with the current manager of men’s national volleyball team, it had produced more than 30 managers of pro teams and strengthened the basis of Korean volleyball. In 1989 with fervent supports from many alumni and students who want to see again the glory of volleyball club, it was reestablished. At the moment of the reestablishment, Yonggwan Lee, one of the alumni, took the position of manager and has scouted high school rising stars to revive past glories. Currently it produced excellent players such as Byeongtak Mun, Seongche Kim, Ho Lee, Jongman Lee, Hanchae Kim and so on. In 1997 the team scouted Seongsu Kang, one of the alumni, as a coach and tightened its grip on the league. In 1999, Jungtak Yu took the position of Manager and lead the team with coach Seongsu Kang. Currently, Namseong Yoon, one of the most brilliant leaders in college volleyball league, took the position of the manager and do its utmost to bring the old glories back.

Tennis Club (Men & Women)

The tennis club was established in 1979 with the key players: Wuryong Lee, Jonghyun Choi, Chunho Kim, Changde Jeon and Kangsu Yun. The tennis club is in an enviable position; it has produced so many members of national teams such as Chunho Kim, Wuryong Lee, Gaptek No, Namju Bae, Seonghun Choi, Hancheol Sin, Uijong Jang, Changhui Park, Yongil Yun, Jongsam Jeong, Hyeonggeun Song, Seonghun Lee and else. The history of the club is literally the history of tennis of Korea. Gaptaek No, the former member of national team and also an alumnus, was the manager and also Coach Jongsam Jeong was scouted and they have taught the players with their full effort. The women’s tennis club was established with Sunho Sin and Suok Kim in 1985. Mie son was a key player in 1986. In 1998, Sunho Sin, an alumnus, become a coach and the team has held its position as the team in university. Currently Yongil Yun and Seunghun Lee are playing as a member of the national team; obviously Myongji University Tennis Club is the best.
